A New Date For The Crew-7 Space Station Mission Has Been Announced By NASA.
The launch of the Crew-7 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is currently planned for Monday, August 21. The organization had originally planned to launch on August 17, but recent modifications to the timetable of a number of other NASA missions departing from the Florida-based Kennedy Space Center forced organizers to reschedule the date.
The mission, which is scheduled to launch at 5:23 a.m. ET (2:23 a.m. PT), will use a Crew Dragon spacecraft called Endurance and one of SpaceX’s dependable Falcon 9 rockets to reach the orbital outpost.
On Friday, August 25, at 3:49 a.m. ET (0:49 a.m. PT), a backup opportunity for the Crew-7 mission will be made available in the event any weather-related or technical challenges arise prior to launch.
Later this month, four astronauts—American Jasmin Moghbeli of NASA, Danish Andreas Mogensen of the European Space Agency, Japanese Satoshi Furukawa of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Russian Konstantin Borisov of Roscosmos—will launch for the space station.
The crew will spend the next six months living and working on the ISS, which is located 250 miles above Earth, beginning the day following launch.
The main portions of the crew’s launch and arrival will be live streamed by SpaceX. Since the Crew-6 voyage in February, NASA has launched only amateur astronauts; but, in May, it oversaw the launch of the Ax-2 mission to the International Space Station, which carried private people.
After having to rely on Russian rockets and spacecraft after the end of NASA’s space shuttle program in 2011, the development of SpaceX’s reusable spaceflight system allowed NASA to resume crewed launches from American territory in 2020.
A modified version of the Crew Dragon with a glass dome was used to carry four private individuals on a three-day orbit of Earth during one of SpaceX’s ten crewed missions.
